How to Grow a Giant Pumpkin – Program with Grower Bruce Hooker

Date: 18 April 2013 19:00 to 20:00
Details:

The North Conway Library is featuring guest speaker Bruce Hooker on Thursday April 18 at 7 PM at the Weather Discovery Center in North Conway on the subject of “How to Grow a Giant Pumpkin.”

Bruce Hooker of Belmont, NH has been growing giant pumpkins since 2003. Bruce will be able to tell you all you need to know to successfully grow your own giant pumpkin in your backyard. He is on the board of the NH Giant Pumpkin Growers Association which is “dedicated to the sport of growing giant pumpkins in the spirit of learning, teaching, and cooperation” (http://www.nhgpga.org/),  and he has had great success himself with one of his pumpkins weighing in at 1,465 lbs and winning the Goffstown Pumpkin festival.

At the presentation you will also learn about the North Conway Library’s Adopt-A-Pumpkin program and you can sign up for it.

You will be able to pre-order a pumpkin plant at the talk. Pumpkin plants are limited and competition was fierce last year, so reserve your plant ahead of time. If you reserve your pumpkin plant early, you will be contacted by email or phone when the plants are ready for adoption, usually at the end of May.   Reservations can be made at the program, at the North Conway Public Library by calling 603-356-2961.

The pumpkin talk with Bruce Hooker takes place Thursday, April 18 at 7PM at the Weather Discovery Center on Main Street in North Conway Village; reservations not necessary. There is no charge, although donations are greatly appreciated and refreshments will be served including fresh coffee from Frontside Grind.
